We caught up with Mr. Madden Wise, exhibitor of the Grand Champion Market Lamb at the 2025 San Angelo Stock Show and San Antonio Stock Show. Learn a little more about Madden below!
What school do you attend/grade are you in?
Early Highschool, Senior
Leading up to the show, did you always know this lamb was special? What made him special?
He has always been one of our barn favorites, but it’s not every day that expectations align with hopes—fortunately, this time, they did! My favorite trait about him is his slim neck, which makes my job as a showman even easier.
Getting to win a TX Major is a huge accomplishment, who would you like to thank for helping you get here?
Winning San Angelo and San Antonio Market Lamb Shows is a dream come true, and I couldn’t have done it without the incredible support system around me. First and foremost, I want to thank my family for believing in me and putting in countless hours at the barn. A huge thank you to Chance Neff and Tate Bittner for trusting me and helping me get the best out of my animal
What is one show ring experience that you will never forget?
I will never forget the compelling speech made by the San Angelo market sheep judge, as for outside the ring, the hugs and applause from friends and family are something that cannot be forgotten and will always hold a sentimental place in my heart
If you could describe your experience in words – how would you describe it?
It’s the feeling of validation, knowing that the countless hours of hard work, early mornings, and late nights were all worth it. It’s an overwhelming rush of pride, relief, and gratitude, shared with the people who stood by you every step of the way. More than anything, winning is a reminder that dreams are achievable with perseverance and passion.
Who has been your biggest influence?
My dad has had the biggest influence on me. He, along with my aunts, achieved incredible success in the show ring, all under the guidance of my grandfather, whom I never had the chance to meet.
If you had the opportunity to win one show, what would it be?
Houston, Houston is the one show my dad was never able to win, which makes it even more meaningful for me. It’s a challenge that drives me, and winning there would not only be a personal accomplishment but also a way to continue the legacy my family has built in the show ring.
Who is your favorite judge? Why?
I don’t have a favorite judge, but I truly appreciate the consistency in champion selections under Scott Greiner. When it comes to younger judges, I believe Conner Brew and Caleb Boden are ahead of their time in the way they analyze and evaluate livestock.
What do you enjoy most about being at the shows?
What I enjoy most about shows is the opportunity to showcase the dedication and hard work that goes into preparing these animals. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of stepping into the ring, knowing the countless hours invested, and competing alongside other talented showmen.
