We caught up with Ms. Brynlee Hogg, exhibitor of the Grand Champion Wether Dam at the 2025 Rodeo Austin. Learn a little more about Brynlee below!
What school do you attend/grade are you in?
I am a senior at Trinity Christian High School
Leading up to the show, did you always know this lamb was special? What made him special?
From early on I knew Ethel had a chance when Jalene Middlesworth said I needed to show this one. She had a typical attitude for a good one, and little spunk and a lot of sass. When we walked in the ring she knew it was showtime.
Getting to win a TX Major is a huge accomplishment, who would you like to thank for helping you get here?
Wow, there are so many people I want to thank for helping me achieve this accomplishment. It is hard to fit it all into one paragraph. So many individuals, both hands-on and behind the scenes, have played an important role in this journey. I am especially thankful for my dad and James for all the miles they traveled and the hard work they put in to help me reach the next level. I am also incredibly grateful for my show team and friends who supported me every step of the way. Most of all, thank you to Ty and Cooper. You have both had such a huge impact on my career, and I am so thankful for everything you have done.
What is one show ring experience that you will never forget?
The banners and those handshakes are ones that l’ll never forget and will always stay with me. But one show ring experience that I still laugh about but I’m also mortified about is when I was in the ring at Ft Worth and my lamb had a little too much drench. He coughed and shot an unfortunate mess all over the back of Hayden Schroeder and his sheep. Then to make it all worse, Hayden started gagging. I felt so bad. I still do. But maybe it was a little good luck because Hayden ended up winning Ft Worth that year.
If you could describe your experience in words – how would you describe it?
I’m extremely grateful for the ones that entrusted me with Ethel and for my team for getting her ready so I could show her for the creature she is, I cannot wait to see what she produces. It was also such a fun and special moment to win it alongside Amy.
Who has been your biggest influence?
I consider myself incredibly lucky to have had many people influence my life in meaningful ways, but if I had to choose just one, it would be my Pepa. He is someone I strive to be like every single day. Kind, humble, compassionate, and selfless, Pepa has pushed me to become a better person and to keep my eyes focused on the bigger picture. He has never met a stranger and has always had a servant’s heart. One day, I hope I can shine as brightly as he does.
If you had the opportunity to win one show, what would it be?
Two shows come to mind immediately, Kansas City and San Antonio. Both shows are ones I had a lot of success at with division champions or reserve divisions champions, but I could not get over the hump and hang the big banner.
Who is your favorite judge? Why?
I would not say I have one favorite judge but I have always appreciated the ones that are kind, consistent and I can always follow throughout the show, like Brent Jennings. When we look at judges across the board I think Steve Sturtz is one that immediately comes to mind. Even though I never actually won a banner under him, he is a judge that I feel is always consistent in what he likes and is respectful to all exhibitors.
What do you enjoy most about being at the shows?
I love being able to see my friends from all over the State and Country. But there is nothing like stepping in the ring with an animal that you’ve poured so much time and work into. My family and team makes it all possible and without them, I would not be where I am today.
