Sidwell Show Sheep

We caught up with the breeder of the Grand Champion Market Lamb at the 2023 Colorado State Fair. We invite you to read our candid interview with Sidwell Show Sheep below and please continue to check back often for our next edition of “Breeder Spotlight.”

What’s the pedigree of your champion?
“Unit” was a product of the flush of our “Belle” donor to Geek Squad.

What makes your operation run smoothly?
Planning and managing nutrition, healthcare and animal wellbeing to the best of our abilities.  Of course when living beings are involved, both human and animal, sometimes things don’t go as intended.

How many head do you run?
90

Do you have another job besides raising sheep? If so, what’s your occupation?
I assist with the operation of our farming and custom harvest enterprise. We also run a herd of club calf producing cows.

In your opinion, who has been the most influential ram across the industry?
Recently, Unicorn and his sons have had the majority of the W’s.
Looking back, I think Arms Race and his descendants and some of the Cabaniss foundational lines have had a pretty heavy influence on a lot of ewe flocks as well, including my own.

What’s your favorite livestock show?
The Weld County Fair. Lots of kids and family we love and one heck of a stock show. If you haven’t seen it, you need to plan a trip.

Do you prefer online sales or live sales?
Both have their advantages for buyers and sellers. For the size of our operation, an online sale works best. But, traveling to the sales and evaluating lambs with my boys is priceless family time to me.
