Rookstool Club Lambs

We caught up with the breeder of the Reserve Grand Champion, 3rd and 5th overall Market Lamb at the 2023 Kansas State Fair. We invite you to read our candid interview with Rookstool Club Lambs below and please continue to check back often for our next edition of “Breeder Spotlight.”

What’s the pedigree of your champion?
State Fair Reserve Market Lamb- Tonto x Centerfold
State Fair 3rd Overall Market- Thunder x Miller ewe
State Fair 5th Overall- Tonto x Covert

What makes your operation run smoothly?
We both have off the farm full time jobs, so our operation has to be a family affair or things would not get done! We are thankful to all our parents that help us and our kids are now old enough to be a large part of the daily workload.

How many head do you run?
We have 120 blackface ewes and 60 recips.

Do you have another job besides raising sheep? If so, what’s your occupation?
Dustin works in maintenace at K-State and Rebecca is an attorney that has a private practice.

In your opinion, who has been the most influential ram across the industry?
Most of our ewes go back to Burn in one way or the other, so for us, it would have to be him.

What’s your favorite livestock show?
We love AKSARBEN because Mason won the goat show there at a very early age so we have many fond memories from that show, but we also think that Cheyenne Livestock Expo is an up and coming show that will have a lot of success.

Do you prefer online sales or live sales?
We enjoy live sales the most but understand that both types have their place in the industry.
