We caught up with Ms. Sawyer Morrical, exhibitor of the Grand Champion Market Lamb at the 2022 Aksarben Stock Show. Learn a little more about Sawyer below!
School Attending & Grade: Clarion-Goldfield-Dows High School – junior
What was special or interesting about your lamb?
Every meal Mal (Malachi) HAD to have big rocks at the bottom of his feeder to keep him from choking because he liked to eat so fast. He choked approximately 7-10 times before we developed his special feeder.
What was your favorite sheep in your barn this year?
My favorite sheep was definitely Mal. He was always special to me.
How would you describe the moment you were selected as champion?
It has always been a huge goal of mine to win a big show like this. I’ve learned how to become disciplined in routine over many years of showing, and to keep working hard everyday. Eventually success will come and when it does it is single-handedly the best feeling to experience.
Favorite thing to hear on showday?
“Go get ’em kid”- Nick and Chels, and various, somewhat encouraging yells from my Papa Dan.
Favorite person you spent time with at the show…
I love spending time with everyone in my show family, Dad, Mom, J.D., Tuck, Nick, Chelsea, Andrew, Cal, Aunt Missy, Grandpa Dan, and Grandpa John and Nana Pat.
Do you have any superstitions?
My mom always gives me a good luck kiss before I show. She has always done this for myself and my two brothers no matter how old we get.
What is your dream job?
My dream job is to become a veterinarian, and eventually open my own clinic.
