We caught up with Mr. Payton Dahmer after he judged sheep showmanship at the 2023 Oklahoma Youth Expo. Check out his thoughts below…
What was your opinion on your champion?
The number of incredible sheep showman at OYE was extreme – however, I’m not sure I’ve ever seen anybody get one stuck as flawlessly as my champion showman did.
Was it an easy decision? Or did they have to really work at it?
My champion showman had her work cut out for her to get around many talented kids, but she made it look easy.
What was one thing you wish showman would do differently?
Not look into the crowd as much
Tell us about your family
My parents still reside in southwest Missouri and are both employed in the ag industry. My younger brother lives in Texas where he works for Corteva, and my younger sister is finishing her junior year of college and preparing for her last summer to show sheep. I now live in Manhattan, KS with my girlfriend Whitney, and our cocker spaniel, Murphy.
Favorite memory in college?
Being a part of the livestock judging teams at Butler and Kansas State. Two groups of people that are my closest friends still today!
Favorite meal?
Anything Mexican
