We caught up with Mr. Ty Jones, exhibitor of the Grand Champion Market Lamb at the 2020 Kentucky State Fair. Learn a little more about Ty below!
Age: 13
Hometown: Scottsville, KY (Bazzell Middle School)
With the uncertainty of the show season, how did you stay focused?
It was business as usual in our show barn. I always had hope we would have a Kentucky State Fair livestock show. With fewer shows, I got to take a few more breaks and had more time for fishing.
What was something new you tried this year since you were able to be home more often than normal?
Since I didn’t have school, my parents let me move a twin bed into the show barn. I slept in the barn. I could spend more time bonding with my animals.
What is your favorite show product to use?
My homemade leg conditioning blend or Sullivan’s Silk on show day.
When I grow up I want to be….
After high school, I want to attend Oklahoma State University and major in animal science or agricultural business. I want to be a leader in the livestock genetics business, an advocate for agriculture and Kentucky Commissioner of Agriculture!
Showing animals has helped me to develop……
Showing animals has helped me develop many friendships across the United States. I also enjoy traveling and experiencing many different regions of the United States. I have showed at Denver, Kansas City, NAILE and seven states in the east.
What’s your favorite Barn Chore:
I enjoy shearing my sheep – particularly with a 13-tooth comb for the first view without wool!
Who is the person you look to for advice right before you go in the ring for that last minute pep talk or pointer:
My mom and dad are always there to give me tips and words of encouragement before I walk in the ring!
Favorite Celebration Restaurant after a good day at the show:
Anywhere with a good rare steak and steamed broccoli.
Favorite Song or Singer:
I don’t have a favorite song or singer, but I like a good 80’s or 90’s country music playlist.
