We caught up with Mr. Sam Schmillen, exhibitor of the Reserve Champion Market Lamb at the 2025 Aksarben Stock Show. Learn a little more about Sam below!
What feed product do you feel helped them the most?
Cooper Specialty Feeds is our base feed, from there we use a little of everything from everywhere.
What show day supply could you not go without?
Probably our drench that we utilize.
What did you do to prepare that made you set yourself apart?
Just constant practice in the yard working and handling my lambs, I have to give my sister Brittney props for helping out with this while I was in college.
What was the funniest thing that happened while you were preparing for the State Fair?
Anyone that knows my mom knows she is very detailed and focused at the show … sometimes when I come back from the weigh scale, I like to add about 5 pounds to the actual weight just to see if there are any cuss words I haven’t learned yet.
If you could invent a new fair food, what would it be?
Some sort of combination that involves cheese curds, steak, and sweet potato fries. Maybe figure out a way to deep fat fry that altogether.
What would it look like if you designed a ride for the fair?
My ride would consist of a boat and a fishing rod, floating on a lazy river stocked with walleye and bass
What was your celebratory dinner choice?
Texas roadhouse!
