We caught up with Ms. Paige Gehret, exhibitor of the Reserve Grand Champion Ewe and at the 2023 Ohio State Fair. Learn a little more about Paige below!
Age: 15
Grade: Sophmore
How do you stay focused on reaching your goal?
I stay in the mindset to never cut corners. I find that keeping that discipline allows me to be the best version of myself when I step into the ring!
Do you show any other species besides sheep? If so, what other species?
I show cattle as well. My family and I have raised and showed cattle since our beginning days of 4H. I am a 4th generation cattle showman.
What’s your favorite show? and why?
Definitely state fair. Everyone gets along with each other and is relatively stress free. Not to mention the history and pride of what it means to stand in that ring.
What do you do to celebrate after a big win?
Take a nap. I’ll celebrate with my family and friends afterwards, but the best thing to do is always take a nap if I don’t have another show.
What has showing livestock taught you?
Showing livestock has taught me just how many people I have supporting me and on my side. It has also given me the opportunity to grow and develop outside of the ring into the person I want to be.
What’s your biggest dream?
Getting a lamb that I raised and showed to be successful. Nothing makes me feel better than being able to say, “Hey, I’ve been through every step of that lamb’s success.”
What’s your lambs name? and what made him/her so special?
Anne. She’s super sweet but still know when she’s supposed to come out to compete. I’ve learned from showing over the years that a ewe with a personality like that is very hard to come by and I’m very lucky to have it in her.
Who do you look up to?
I look up to my brothers. Whether they’re helping me or telling me what to do, they just try to make sure that I can be the best that I can be. I can attribute almost all of my success to their help and I am honored to be able to call myself their little sister!
