We caught up with Ms. Cedar Caruso, exhibitor of the Reserve Grand Champion Market Lamb at the 2022 Kansas State Fair. Learn a little more about Cedar below!
School Attending & Grade: I am currently a senior at Shawnee Mission East High School.
What was special or interesting about your lamb?
He had really neat icy blue eyes.
What was your favorite sheep in your barn this year?
My favorite sheep this year would have to be either Jose or NO2, a ewe I showed. NO2 was probably the easiest going sheep I’ve ever shown and was always fun to work. Jose was the most high maintenance sheep I’ve had, but he definitely had one of my favorite personalities.
How would you describe the moment you were selected as champion?
Exhilarating. It was the best feeling to know my hard work had paid off.
Favorite thing to hear on showday?
My favorite thing to hear on show day would have to be that my animals look good. It’s always a confidence booster before I go into the ring to know they look the part.
Favorite person you spent time with at the show…
I couldn’t pick one, but my favorite people I spent time with at the show would have to be my mom and Jara Settles. My mom is my biggest supporter and always has words of encouragement. Jara has the best fashion advice and always calms my nerves before I hit the ring.
Do you have any superstitions?
I don’t have any superstitions.
What is your dream job?
My dream job would be a veterinarian focused on small ruminant reproduction.
