We caught up with Ms. Avery Rice, exhibitor of the Reserve Grand Champion Market Lamb at the 2023 Ohio State Fair. Learn a little more about Avery below!
How do you stay focused on reaching your goal?
We set them at the beginning of each show season and work out hardest to reach them.
Do you show any other species besides sheep? If so, what other species?
Yes, I also show pigs.
What’s your favorite show? and why?
My favorite show would have to be the Ohio State Fair. Even though it’s my first year showing sheep there, I’ve shown pigs in the past and it’s the best of the best in Ohio for both species.
What do you do to celebrate after a big win?
Our crew normally just listens to music super loud and we also always fist bump each other as soon as we get out of the ring
What has showing livestock taught you?
Showing livestock has taught me all sorts of things like responsibility, what hard work looks like, and also help me make friendship that will last a lifetime.
What’s your biggest dream?
My biggest dream would have to be winning a national show in my age division for showmanship.
What’s your lambs name? and what made him/her so special?
My lambs name is Seven because that was the last digit of his ear tag! And a fun fact about him is that he likes salt and vinegar chips!
Who do you look up to?
The person who have taught me everything I know, Seth Wasilewski and his coach who taught him, Kara Stovall.
