Neff Livestock

We caught up with the breeder of the Supreme Champion Ewe and Grand Champion Market Lamb at the 2023 Wisconsin State Fair, the Grand Champion 4-H Ewe and Grand Champion 4-H Market Lamb at the 2023 Iowa State Fair, and the Reserve Grand Champion Wether at the 2023 Illinois State Fair. We invite you to read our candid interview with Neff Livestock below and please continue to check back often for our next edition of “Breeder Spotlight.”

What’s the pedigree of your champion?
The Champion wether at Wisconsin was a Chief X Greenline. The ewe would be a Saban X Unicorn ( Chiefs sister). Mortvedt wether in Iowa was an Illuminati X Greenline, then the Schmillen ewe was a Chief X Greenline ( Sabans sister). Then we have Sheridan Hank’s wether at Illinois who was a Saban X  Bishop Bullwinkle.

What makes your operation run smoothly?
There are numerous factors that make our place run. Our family has been blessed with tremendous help in two young guys by the name of Tanner Stokes and Hudson Lee. I’m a bit scatter brained and with the help of my family and those guys we are able to stay in line.

How many head do you run?
Between black face ewes and Recip ewes we stay anywhere from 750-1,000 ewes at anytime.

Do you have another job besides raising sheep? If so, what’s your occupation?
I do not. I’m blessed to be able to call my passion my work.

In your opinion, who has been the most influential ram across the industry?
I wish I  thought this was a tough question. There is no denying in our program it has been Drop the mic . I can’t think of any buck that’s been listed in anymore winner pics then drop. However I’d say Burn was the ultimate changer buck that I’ve seen since we have been involved in the industry.

What’s your favorite livestock show?
Louisville has always been the pinnacle for me
