Davis Show Lambs

We caught up with the breeder of the Grand Champion Market Lamb at the 2023 Oregon State Fair. We invite you to read our candid interview with Davis Show Lambs below and please continue to check back often for our next edition of “Breeder Spotlight.”

What’s the pedigree of your champion?

Sire: Saban
Dam: donor 5241 “Johnson” dirty banana x trigger

What makes your operation run smoothly?
Working as a team. It might sound cliche but it’s true we are so lucky we both support eachother in every aspect of the operation. We divide and conquer on normal days and when the other needs to leave the other runs the show no questions asked. It’s pivotal having a spouse that loves it as much, maybe even more than me. Two forces combining allows for a more fluid budget, stronger collaboration and free labor. Haha

How many head do you run?
We have just at 80 head with only 30 blackface ewes right now. Plans to increase in the near future.

Do you have another job besides raising sheep? If so, what’s your occupation?
Yes I am the Bin Complex and Packaging Manager at Lifeline Foods in Saint Joe. Jenna works for Zoetis Petcare as a Territory Business Manager.

In your opinion, who has been the most influential ram across the industry?
Relevant today I’d say; Unicorn, Drop the Mic and Chief is on the rise.

What’s your favorite livestock show?
Mine would be Denver. Jenna’s would be MLE (she’s a loyal Michigander)

Do you prefer online sales or live sales?
Both have their place and both have been instrumental for us. Live are so important…..building relationships, buyers getting their own eyes and hands on lambs and the excitement but if I had to choose I would choose online. It’s much much less work and we love our photographer, Monica.
