Berry Farms

We caught up with the breeder of the Reserve Supreme Champion Breeding Ewe at the 2024 Aksarben Stock Show. We invite you to read our candid interview with Berry Farms below and please continue to check back often for our next edition of “Breeder Spotlight.”

What’s the pedigree of your champion?
“Black Betty”
Italian Stallion x 520 (48 son) x 48 x Fowl

What is an interesting fact about your champion?
“Black Betty” is same ewe family as Cocky Rocky, Golden Glove, and grand market @ Aksarben 2023 as well as countless other sisters.

Best piece of advice for someone just getting started?
Get with a breeder where you can buy a set or group together that are similar bred. One that has been in the business awhile and that will shoot you straight.

What has been the hardest thing you have faced as a breeder?
October 2024- Bluetongue

What is one thing you think is a non-negotible purchase?
A good quality base feed that is consistent and fresh. I wouldn’t say you need every type of exercise equipment, supplement, or the newest products in the showbox- but I do believe a high quality textured feed can help maximize your animal as much as anything along with putting in extra effort with exercising, fitting, and showmanship.

What is your favorite Fall Show? Why?
Kansas City will be a hard one to top for us this year but we also have had a good run in the ring the last 5 years as well.
Also hard not to love the green chips and bright lights on the big stage at NAILE.

Who is a foundation builder for your heard? What makes her so special?
134 Fowl- Was a ewe we purchased from Middlesworth’s back in 2015 if i had to guess. She maybe never had a state fair grand or produced a stud buck directly, but she shows up in a pile of extended pedigrees.
