Taylor Brittingham

We caught up with Ms. Taylor Brittingham, exhibitor of the Grand Champion Market Lamb at the 2020 Delaware State Fair. Learn a little more about Taylor below!

Age: 20

Hometown: Smyrna, Delaware (Delaware Technical Community College)

With the uncertainty of the show season, how did you stay focused?
I just kept thinking positive that the show season would happen.  Even though a few of the early shows were cancelled, Delaware kept pushing and was able to hold the State Fair.  In the past I  showed cattle and swine, so I knew I needed to work hard with my lambs this year.  I worked with them everyday hoping I’d be able to show!  Thanks to Delaware State Fair and everyone that made this happen.

What was something new you tried this year since you were able to be home more often than normal?
Showing lambs was completely new for me, as I have shown cattle and swine most of my life.  So being able to spend more time in the barn allowed me to work and learn many things with the lambs.

What is your favorite show product to use?
With my lambs, I really liked using Sure Coat. It helped their hair growth and they looked great at show time.

When I grow up I want to be….

Elementary School Teacher.  I have been substituting while taking classes and kindergarten has been my favorite so far.

Showing animals has helped me to develop……

Having animals and preparing them for show season had taught responsibility and as I’ve gotten older, leadership.  It’s great working with the younger kids helping those that are just getting started.

What’s your favorite Barn Chore:
My favorite barn chore is washing them.  That’s when I can bond with each of them the most.

Who is the person you look to for advice right before you go in the ring for that last minute pep talk or pointer:

My parents are my number one supports.  I can always count on them for the last minute good lucks as I am about to walk into the show ring. My family is a big livestock family, so I always have my parents, grandparents, aunts/uncles, cousins and others there cheering me on.

Favorite Celebration Restaurant after a good day at the show:
Not so much a restaurant, but I usually put in a request for a steak and lobster dinner.  Normally my family pulls through soon after a show with a delicious meal!

Favorite Song or Singer:
Morgan Wallen, all of his songs.
