We caught up with Ms.Staten Silvers, exhibitor of the Grand Champion Commercial Ewe at the 2025 San Antonio Stock Show. Learn a little more about Staten below!
What school do you attend/grade are you in?
Junction ISD – 4th Grade
Leading up to the show, did you always know this lamb was special? What made him special?
Lalah was special because she had a very good show record. When she was younger, she won several shows, so I knew she was really good—I just hoped I could show her that well too. Another special, or really funny, thing is that our Sheepadoodle, Rose, bit half of her ear off!
Getting to win a TX Major is a huge accomplishment, who would you like to thank for helping you get here?
There are many people I would like to thank. We have a really great team, and I had so much fun at San Antonio with our girl gang. At home, every day, my dad, mom, Meme, Papa, and Cellanca help me. I also want to thank Tyler and Breann Jenkins for letting me show Lalah and for coming to San Antonio to help get her looking beautiful.
What is one show ring experience that you will never forget?
My first year showing, I won my Southdown class at Houston. It’s one memory I’ll never forget—along with winning the San Antonio ewe show this year!
If you could describe your experience in words – how would you describe it?
I told my parents at Ft. Worth that I wasn’t happy Shep always gets better lambs than I do (except Southdowns). So when I won the ewe show at San Antonio, I was overjoyed and so happy. I smiled and cried happy tears because all my hard work paid off.
Who has been your biggest influence?
Landrie Lane. She has helped me with showmanship and has been a great mentor to me.
If you had the opportunity to win one show, what would it be?
The Houston Livestock Show. My brother and dad have both won the lamb show there, so I hope to win it one day too.
Who is your favorite judge? Why?
Jeff Ripley, because I won my first major stock show class at Houston under him.
What do you enjoy most about being at the shows?
Hanging out with my friends, checking out all the shops, finding cute clothes and accessories—and of course, showing my animals!
