We caught up with Ms. Marlee Massey, exhibitor of the Grand Champion Wether Dam at the 2025 Missouri State Fair. Learn a little more about Marlee below!
What feed product do you feel helped them the most?
We feed Respond, by Performance Feed & Seed and wouldn’t have been able to keep our set healthy and on feed without it!
What show day supply could you not go without?
We don’t eat at normal times on show day, so I’m always thankful for the snack box, stocked with my favorites.
What did you do to prepare that helped set yourself apart?
Consistency was key for me. I had a routine for everything from feeding times to exercise and mirror work and just kept at it. In the end, this ewe is a little bit of a diva – she loves to show and that helps a bunch!
What was the funniest thing that happened while you were preparing for the State Fair?
The best part of State Fair prep is shearing with my team. We work hard, but there’s always someone doing something goofy, and it takes my mind off being nervous for a big show.
If you could invent a new fair food, what would it be?
I’d take my two favorite things and make a S’more funnel cake – top it with toasty marshmallows, chocolate sauce and graham cracker crumbs. Messy but worth it!
What would it look like if you designed a ride for the fair?
I would want to ride a zip line above the fairgrounds so I could see everything from above! Bonus if it was one of those little cars with the doors that close so I could take my sheep.
What was your celebratory dinner choice?
We have to move out immediately after the ewe show so we celebrated with burgers and blackberry shakes on the way home at Estes Drive-In in Lincoln. It’s an annual tradition!
