We caught up with Ms. Macy Squires, exhibitor of the Reserve Champion Commercial Ewe at the 2026 Wisconsin State Fair. Learn a little more about Macy below!
How long have you been showing sheep?
I’ve been showing sheep with my family for 11 years, and it’s something I’ve grown to absolutely love.
What was your favorite thing about this lamb?
Definitely her personality! Peach has always been incredibly sweet and easy to work with. She’s the kind of ewe that makes you enjoy being around her every day.
Go-to “hype” song on show day?
“Highest in the Room” by Travis Scott.
What goes through your head when you are in the show ring?
I remind myself that I’ve already done the work at home. All the early mornings, late nights, practicing, fitting, and preparation have already happened. Once I step into the ring, all I have to do is show her the best I can and let the judge tell me that all the hard work paid off.
When prepping for a show, what is something that is a “must-have” in the show box?
Sure Shine is definitely my favorite! Not only does it smell great, but it works.
What is your favorite motivational quote?
“If you want it badly enough, you’ll find a way.”
I think that quote really represents showing sheep. There are going to be long days, setbacks, and plenty of challenges, but if you want it badly enough, you’ll figure out a way to make it happen.
