We caught up with Mr. Kooper Edwards, exhibitor of the Reserve Grand Champion Market Lamb at the 2025 San Antonio Stock Show. Learn a little more about Kooper below!
What school do you attend/grade are you in?
Sudan High School 11th Grade
Leading up to the show, did you always know this lamb was special? What made him special?
I had a feeling early on that this lamb would be special, but over time and continued work in the barn, he kept proving himself to be a barn favorite.
Getting to win a TX Major is a huge accomplishment, who would you like to thank for helping you get here?
There are so many people I need to thank for helping me to get to this point. First and most important is, I thank God for giving me the opportunity to be able to show sheep. I have gotten the honor to show with both of my sisters however, none of this would be possible without my Dad. It has definitely been a family experience.
We are also blessed to be apart of a great team. Logan Newsom, Ty Allen, and Cooper Newcomb have been an essential part of my show experience. And I can’t forget to mention my favorite show moms, James and Vinny.
What is one show ring experience that you will never forget?
I have been fortunate to experience hanging banners in the southdown breed over the years but nothing will ever compare to the feeling of shaking the judge’s hand when you win a big one. This is an unforgettable experience that I got to share with a buddy that I have grown up showing with.
If you could describe your experience in words – how would you describe it?
This was an unforgettable experience. When you work hard all year towards the same goal as everyone else and you finally accomplish it in the end, it will not soon be forgotten.
Who has been your biggest influence?
My father has molded me into the person I am today. He has instilled hard work, responsibility, and the importance of helping others my entire life and I would not be the person I am today without his influence.
If you had the opportunity to win one show, what would it be?
My sisters have both gotten a piece of the Houston Market Lamb Show and I think it would finalize a cool legacy for me to hang one of those banners with them.
Who is your favorite judge? Why?
Right now I am pretty partial to Dan Willoughby!!
What do you enjoy most about being at the shows?
I have made some of the best friends from all over the state at lamb shows throughout my career.
