We caught up with Ms. Kayley Galindo, exhibitor of the Reserve Supreme Champion Breeding Ewe at the 2024 California Youth Expo. Learn a little more about Kayley below!
What is one thing you try to do that sets you apart?
When it comes to setting myself apart I know that first impressions in the ring matter. As soon as I line up for class I know it’s time to really get focused and make the first look count. That way I can start the class on a high note.
What was the hardest thing you had to learn about showing sheep?
The hardest thing to learn about showing sheep for me was learning that each sheep is different. Every sheep has a different personality and having to learn what works and what doesn’t can sometimes be frustrating. But when the sheep and I finally work out all the little details and things come together it’s so rewarding and makes me feel accomplished.
Who has helped you the most as a showman?
My family. My mom and siblings especially. Showing sheep has always been something we do as a family, whether it’s working sheep or scrubbing buckets. Having 3 older siblings that have been successful in the ring before me really helps when it comes to showmanship and now getting to help my younger brother start out has been really great. But my mom is definitely one of my biggest inspirations and I know that without her support and guidance I would not be anywhere near as successful without her.
