We caught up with Mr. Ethan Bomberger, exhibitor of the Grand Champion Ewe at the 2024 Nebraska State Fair 4-H Show. Learn a little more about Ethan below!
What is one thing you try to do that sets you apart?
I started livestock judging at a young age to improve my ability to select livestock. I have improved my skills as a showman by knowing what my animal should look like. And now I also have a passion for livestock judging. Also, I show each lamb based on what makes them look best.
What was the hardest thing you had to learn about showing sheep?
Learning to take constructive criticism. We all want to win. But the only way to get to the backdrop is by listening to the advice of others. We raise our own sheep that we show. After being in the barn with them from birth, it’s not easy when someone doesn’t like my sheep. I learned to humble myself and grow with each critique or advice given.
Who has helped you the most as a showman?
My Mom and my Uncle Roy. They stand by while I work my animals and give advice for improvement and we discuss the feed rations.
