Dalley Jobe

We caught up with Ms. Dalley Jobe exhibitor of the Grand Champion Market Lamb at the 2024 San Antonio Stock Show. Learn a little more about Dalley below!

Tell us a little about your champion:
My champion, Macalicious, was bred by MacLennan Club Lambs. From day one he was sweet, but knew he was a champion. He had his own opinion regarding certain things; one being hating halters.

What’s the most interesting thing you’ve learned while showing animals?
The most interesting thing I have learned while showing animals is the life lessons it has taught me. Showing has taught me to be humble, have faith, never give up, and always work hard  in everything in life.

Do you have any special tricks for getting stubborn animals to cooperate?
A special trick to get stubborn animals to cooperate is really quite simple. A wise man, Jon Witte, once told me “once you create that trust between you and the animal that bond can never be broken.” They all just need a little TLC.

What’s your favorite memory involving your animals?
My favorite memory involving my animals was winning San Antonio. This has always been a dream and goal of mine. I always wondered if it would ever happen. Walking out of the ring, I was on cloud nine! I was in such awe of all the people that surrounded me. I remember thinking how blessed I was to have so many incredible people in my corner every step of the way. This moment is one I will never forget.

How do you prepare your animals both physically and mentally for the shows?
I prepare my animals for shows by giving them pep talks. We talk about everything we should and shouldn’t do before we walk into the ring.

What’s the most challenging aspect of showing livestock, and how do you overcome it?
For me, the most challenging aspect of showing livestock is not letting doubt fester and spread. This at times can be really difficult for me to overcome. I overcome this by turning on music and blocking out the noise. I also have some pretty awesome people in my corner to keep my head straight.

Who inspired you to become the showman you are today?
The person who inspired me to become the showman I am today is Chad Walker. I will never forget the day he asked me if I wanted to be the best or just ok. That resonated with me and that day everything changed.  He has always pushed me to be better, do better, and get better in all aspects of showing.

Do you name your animals? If so, what’s the most interesting name you have given?
I name a few that are extra special to me. I would say the most interesting names I have given are Valentino and Macalicious.

If your lamb had its own pump-up song, what would it be?
If my lamb had its own pump-up-song it would be Thunder by Imagine Dragons.

What’s the most unexpected blooper you’ve experienced during a show?
I can honestly say I have never experienced a blooper during a show, but the year is not over yet.
