We caught up with Ms. Abby Dies, exhibitor of the Reserve Grand Champion Ewe at the 2024 Iowa State Fair FFA. Learn a little more about Abby below!
What is one thing you try to do that sets you apart?
One thing that sets me apart is that the sheep I show I raise with my family. We challenge ourselves year after year to improve our quality and genetics. My brother would also say that I try to place my legs perfectly in the ring to set myself apart… too perfectly at times!
What was the hardest thing you had to learn about showing sheep?
One of the hardest things I had to learn about showing sheep was gaining confidence and maintaining it through setbacks. It’s so easy for one show to damage your confidence, but having that confidence can be crucial in the ring. It’s a difficult skill for me still and I’m always trying to improve it!
Who has helped you the most as a showman?
My brother, Oliver. He’s always encouraging no matter what problems we encounter and is always pushing me to be the best I can be. He has taught me so much about how to take care of and show sheep, and also how to work hard and to be a better person.
