We caught up with judge Slayton Strube before he steps “Inside the Ring” to sort the Junior Market Lamb Show at the Ohio State Fair. Learn more about Slayton below…
What are you looking forward to the most while judging the show?
I really enjoyed the Open Show last year and it was a combination of the people, the atmosphere, the quality sheep and some travel time with my wife. Just looking forward to much of the same this year.
What state fair did you show at growing up? What was your favorite part?
Living in Texas I had the opportunity to make the full tour of major shows. I look back on it now and mostly cherish the time spent with family.
What show is on your bucket list to judge?
2 shows with green shavings come to mind-NAILE and Houston. However, grateful for any opportunity that may come my way.
What is one lesson you took away from showing yourself?
Sacrifice. I didn’t realize it then but now see that it is such a valuable lesson to learn how to be committed to animals daily. It forces us to take our focus off of self and sacrificially give our time, attention, efforts and resources to this responsibility.
