We caught up with Mr. Scott Greiner to learn more about his hometown before he steps “Inside the Ring” to sort the Market Lambs and Wether Dams at the 2025 Missouri State Fair. Get to know Scott below!
Where did you grow up?
Oxford, Iowa
How many kids were in your graduating class?
Around 60 and we were a very big class. Clear Creek High School (now Clear Creek Amana). Class of 1985
If we go back to your senior year of high school, what song was “your song”?
Music wasn’t really my thing. Know Alabama, George Strait and Hank Jr. were big on country scene- and chance to see them in concert at state fair or elsewhere was must do. I had to look it up- Wham and Madonna were the chart toppers but not really my speed. I do remember the song “We Are the World” came out senior year as a fundraiser for poverty in Africa.
Were you involved in any extracurricular activities? If so, what?
Yes, I played football and basketball. We did not have an FFA program, so did not have that experience growing up. Very involved in 4-H of course- sheep project, judging, public speaking, leadership, etc.
If you could describe your hometown in one word, what would it be?
Small and tight knit. Population of around 700, and everyone knew everything about everybody. Growing up we had grocery store, gas station, bank, elementary school, hardware store, Ford dealer, and couple bars. So lots going on for small town.
Were there any local traditions or festivals you loved?
Like most all small towns in the area we had the town parades, sporting events, church functions and others. A unique one was the World’s Biggest Beach Party in Williamsburg (15 miles west). We were long ways from any ocean so created beach party in big field, brought in sand and everything. Big party is all I remember.
Are there any people in your hometown who shaped who you are today?
My parents and family of course. Had lots of great neighbors that we helped make hay and do other chores, and whole community was very tight knit. Also the families we attended church with, many of which also farmed and raised livestock and all of us kids hung out and were in 4H together.
