What is “nonnegotiable” for you when judging good livestock?
Athletic with a good skeletal system, I like to get my initial impression their first few steps into the ring. Also, they have to be good compositionally, no fat ones.
What is your favorite part about working with the next generation of young people?
Getting to interact with them and seeing their enthusiasm for their projects.
What is your best piece of advice for someone looking to pursue a judging career?
Have thick skin, be consistent with your selection criteria, and to have fun with it.
Biggest showmanship pet peeve?
Slapping the sheep
Do you prefer to judge on the profile or on the walk?
I think all views are important but I prefer to evaluate them on the move.

What impression do you hope to leave on the crowd and exhibitors when you exit the ring after judging?
That every kid thought they got a fair look and they had my full attention, no matter where they placed in class.
