We caught up with Mr. Lucas Tuck before he steps “Inside the Ring” to sort the Wether Dam Ewe Show at the 2025 American Royal. Get to know Lucas below!
Who first encouraged you to step into the ring as a judge?
Throughout 4-h I was on our county’s judging team, then proceeded onto Butler Community College and K-State. All 3 steps along the way I had people to push me and mold me into how I evaluate.
Do you have a “pre-show ritual” or way you get in the right mindset before walking into the ring?
Not much of a pre-show ritual, typically just get myself amped up to look at whatever the day throws me!
What’s one lesson showing livestock taught you that you still use today?
No one owes you a thing. This whole deal can be so stressful and there are days that you feel like your wheels are spinning, but it’s all how you overcome the obstacles that determine how the cards fall.
What’s the very first thing you notice when an animal/exhibitor enters the ring?
First impressions are huge for me. You can tell how much time and effort went on behind the scenes within the first 10-15 steps into the ring. I hardly ever waiver from how things hit me at first.
One word or a short phrase you’d use to describe your judging style?
Efficient
