Lexi Hunt

We caught up with Lexi Hunt before she steps “Inside the Ring” to sort the Junior Show at the 2026 North Dakota State Fair. Learn more about Lexi below…

What is “nonnegotiable” for you when judging good livestock?
Athleticism! I am a firm believer that sheep should be flexible and built correct in terms of their skeleton.

What is your favorite part about working with the next generation of young people?
While I was growing up, I remember looking up to judges at shows and dreaming of the day I might get to stand in the middle of the ring. Now that I have that opportunity, I hope to inspire as many young people as possible to chase their dreams whether that is inside or outside of the show ring!

What is your best piece of advice for someone looking to pursue a judging career?
My advice to young people looking to pursue a judging career is to get involved as early as possible with a livestock judging team and to participate on a collegiate livestock judging team on both the junior and senior college level.

Biggest showmanship pet peeve?
My biggest showmanship pet peeve is showman that are more concerned with themselves rather than their project. The first priority should always be getting your animal looking their absolute best before worrying about your own intensity.

Do you prefer to judge on the profile or on the walk?
I prefer judging livestock on the walk to truly be able to study them in their natural state.

Favorite show you have judged?
It is really hard to beat the atmosphere and experience at The Revival!

If judges had a walkup song, what would yours be?
“Congratulations” by Post Malone

Go-to road trip snack?
Skinny Pop Popcorn!

What impression do you hope to leave on the crowd and exhibitors when you exit the ring after judging?
My goal after each show is to have created a positive experience in the show ring for each and every exhibitor that came through and ensure that each of them felt that they got a fair evaluation regardless of their placing.
