Leah Amstutz

We caught up with judge Leah Amstutz before she steps “Inside the Ring” at the Nebraska State Fair 4-H Show. We invite you to read our candid interview with Leah below and please continue to check back often for our next edition of “Inside the Ring.”

WHO GOT YOU INVOLVED IN THE LIVESTOCK INDUSTRY AND HOW?
My sister and I were given our first set of ewes when I was in the third grade. My mother was a strong supporter of us growing our flock and maintaining it, even when I moved away.

WHAT IS A DREAM YOU HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO ACCOMPLISH?

My dream is to judge a national show.

WHERE ARE YOU FROM AND WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO WHERE YOU CURRENTLY LIVE?
I had the opportunity to take a position at the Ohio Department of Education 12 years ago as the Executive Sectary of the Ohio FFA Association and Agricultural Education Program Specialist. Our sheep shearer, Greg Fogle, played a key role in helping us locate our current place in Richwood.

WHAT IS A PET PEEVE OF YOURS IN THE RING?
I don’t care for exhibitors not showing sportsmanship in the ring and respecting each other.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE SHEEP YOU’VE EVER SEEN?
I have had the opportunity to judge some really good sheep. My favorite is the 2016 Grand Champion Commercial Ewe at OYE.
