Destyn Emerson

We caught up with showmanship judge Destyn Emerson before she steps “Inside the Ring” at the 2026 EYO. We invite you to read our candid interview with Destyn below and please continue to check back often for our next edition of “Inside the Ring – Showmanship Edition.”

What is your favorite part about working with the next generation of young people?
My favorite part about working with the next generation is seeing their confidence grow and watching their hard work pay off. It’s really fulfilling to see young people with an incredible work ethic and drive!

What is your best piece of advice for someone looking to pursue a judging career?
Go for it! It’ll bring you to some of your toughest days, but also the most rewarding days. Most importantly, it’ll surround you with some of the absolute best people there are!

Biggest showmanship pet peeve?
Showing in halters

Do you prefer to judge on the profile or on the walk?
On the walk. I’ve always been taught good livestock starts from the ground up!

If judges had a walkup song, what would yours be?
Maybe a bit of a different answer than expected, but mine would be worship music! Before any show I judge or contest I’m about to walk into, I always play “Way Maker”. This gets me in the right mindset, reminds me of my true purpose and calms my nerves.

Go-to road trip snack?
Nerd gummy clusters!

What impression do you hope to leave on the crowd and exhibitors when you exit the ring after judging?
Regardless if I’m in the ring, on the road with my team, or anywhere else my hope is to leave those around me with more positivity, encouragement and confidence than before our interaction.
