Best piece of advice for someone just getting started?
Buy as elite of ones as you can not as many as you can.
What has been the hardest thing you have faced as a breeder?
The uncontrollable variables like weather changes from excessive heat impacting flush programs and ram fertility to constant temperature changes impacting baby lamb health.
What is one thing you think is a non-negotible purchase?
Buying semen on the best rams in the country regardless of whether they are popular or who owns them.
What is your favorite Fall Show? Why?
Louisville has to be my favorite, it’s great to catch up with other sheep breeders and see what is being offered at Bluegrass babes.
Who is a foundation builder for your heard? What makes her so special?
Hard to pick just one, but Queen has been invaluable to our operation. The mom to multiple champion wethers and our stud buck Phoenix is exceptional, but what truly separates her from the rest is what her daughters are doing with 6 direct daughters in the donor pen.
Who have you looked up to while building your herd? Why?
We have been influenced by lots of great individuals, but if we had to pick one it would be Dwayne Hurliman. He kept the females that he liked and were his kind regardless if anyone else liked them or not.
