How many years have you been raising sheep?
While Jenkins Show Stock has officially been around for the last 4 years, the sheep business has been part of our lives much longer. We always kept a few ewes over the years, but they were housed at other farms while I spent most of my time trading sheep. Once we moved to Texas and decided this was the life we wanted to build, we finally started growing Jenkins Show Stock into what it is today.
What excites you the most about raising show stock?
The opportunity to create something never seen before. There’s something special about watching a lamb you helped be born, and seeing the potential you hoped for come to life and make it to the backdrop. But more than anything it’s building our operation as a family. We see this more than a business for us, it’s something we are consistently building, learning from and pouring our hearts into.
What is your favorite animal on your farm?
If we’re picking a sheep, it’s Rez Dog without question. He’s made a huge impact on our program and countless others, and we’re still seeing the results of what he’s doing!

What is one lesson that you have learned while raising sheep that has changed your perspective over time?
Raising sheep has taught us to bet on ourselves. Leaving what was comfortable, moving states, and building a program from the ground up wasn’t the easy route, but it’s shown us what can happen when you’re willing to work for something you believe in. Not every decision has worked out, but every challenge has helped shape who we are and what Jenkins Show Stock stands for today.
Where would you like to see your operation go in the next 5 – 10 years?
With the big move to Missouri at the end of May. We have started our first step into where we would like to see our operation in 5-10 years. We are hoping to continue to grow our operations, in both the sheep and goats and raise the highest quality livestock possible. We are also hoping to encourage Briggs into this industry and hopefully enjoy it like his parents.
