We caught up with the breeder of the Grand Champion Market Lamb at the 2026 California State Fair. We invite you to read our candid interview with Hubbard Club Lambs below and please continue to check back often for our next edition of “Breeder Spotlight.”
What’s the pedigree of your champion?
Unicorn x Truce x Chabot
He is a Full Brother to our buck “Godfather” that is currently standing on stud at Urban Sires.
How many years have you been raising sheep?
10+
What excites you the most about raising show stock?
The opportunity to share our passion as a family and watch our operation grow to the level it has together.
In addition, the challenge and intricacy of making mating decisions that can either positively or negatively impact genetic progression.
What is your favorite animal on your farm?
The Chabot Ewe
We are not what we are today without her.
What is one lesson that you have learned while raising sheep that has changed your perspective over time?
Every decision must be calculated to make a true impact.
Rash breeding decisions only limit genetic progression.
I use to go with whatever my gut told me and felt like I needed to use whatever was popular to sell sheep. Now I rarely use unproven bucks, and will ponder mating decisions for weeks leading up to flushes.
Where would you like to see your operation go in the next 5 – 10 years?
To create a bigger footprint in the market, and develop a nucleus of 200 donor caliber females that all stem back to roughly 5 or so of the elite ewe families across our industry.
