Diamond W Club Lambs

We caught up with the breeder of the Supreme Champion Ewe at the 2024 Kansas State Fair. We invite you to read our candid interview with Diamond W Club Lambs below and please continue to check back often for our next edition of “Breeder Spotlight.”

What’s the pedigree of your champion?
Quicksilver x “Viper” (Strictly Business x DTM)

What is one thing you still want to accomplish as a breeder?
There are still several things we would like to accomplish as breeders. Capturing a big banner at a national show is on the bucket list, along with raising a stud buck that can make a true impact in the industry.

Favorite show ring trend?
Favorite trend right now is watching judges emphasize and value sheep in motion.

Favorite industry sire of all time?
Drop The Mic

Most influential female in your flock? Why?
“Viper” is easily the most influential. She has dammed the 4th overall market lamb at the Kansas State Fair, the Supreme Champion Ewe at the Kansas State Fair and is the mother of our new young stud buck named Copperhead that will get some heavy use by us moving forward. Her mother is “1702” who was out of Drop the Mic and her mother had some Composure/Compromise genetics in her pedigree. We transferred 36 embryos from two flushes out of Viper this Fall and are looking forward to seeing her next lamb crop.

Favorite show animal you’ve ever seen?
That’s a tough one. So many species are making elite ones and with the advancements in reproductive technologies I think this will only continue. Brooke Kuesel has a sheep that was never beaten and won the 2018 Iowa State Fair FFA Market Lamb show. For the times, that sheep was exceptional, and in my opion, would still compete today.
