Brookwood Farms

We caught up with the breeder of the Reserve Champion Wether Dam at the 2025 Arkansas State Fair. We invite you to read our candid interview with Brookwood Farms below and please continue to check back often for our next edition of “Breeder Spotlight.”

What’s the pedigree of your champion?
Ceasefire x Frog x Collusion

What are your long-term goals as a breeder?
We want to make West Virginia a true destination for quality genetics. It’s really hard to get people to make the trip out here.

Was there a moment when you almost gave up? What made you push through?
Throughout this journey we have always saved the best for our boys to show. That has been the driving force behind our motivation to keep improving.

If you could rebuild your herd/flock from scratch, what would you do differently?
Less numbers. HaHa

What trait do you wish you had focused on sooner in your program?
Feature. Not that I agree with the value that is being placed on white shag but it certainly helps to pay the bills.

Is there a breeding decision you’re especially proud of — or one you regret?
We’ve probably spent too much time and money on bucks that weren’t known for their fertility.

What’s your favorite state fair — and why?
West Virginia. It’s home.

Is there anything you wish you had known when you started breeding?
Sheep are NOT the same as cattle reproductively.

What’s next — any big goals or projects in the works?
We have fall borns for the first time ever and this is Braden’s last year of showing so we are definitely going to be offering the best for sale in the future.
