We caught up with Mr. Crew Freeland, exhibitor of the Grand Champion Market Lamb at the 2025 American Royal. Learn a little more about Crew below!
How did you get started in showing livestock?
I started showing livestock because of my dad. He showed when he was younger, and I started as soon as I was old enough.
What’s your favorite thing to do outside the show barn?
My favorite thing to do outside of the show barn is sports. I play football and baseball.
Favorite show to attend?
My favorite show to attend is the American Royal. I love the history behind it and all of the showmen I get to meet from across the country.
If you weren’t showing, what sport/hobby would you be doing?
If I wasn’t showing, I’d be hunting or fishing and hanging out with friends.
Favorite show barn chore? Least favorite?
My favorite chore around the barn is walking my lambs around our acreage. My least favorite chore is cleaning pens.
What’s one thing your parents/mentors always remind you of before you go in the ring?
Before I go into the ring, my dad usually gives me a fist bump and reminds me what to focus on specific to the lamb I’m showing.
What’s one thing you learned from your champion that will help you with future projects?
One thing I learned from Bronco is perseverance. I was blessed to win multiple shows and the Cornhusker Showdown, which was a huge goal of mine. But after a disappointing State Fair and Aksarben, I learned to be patient, trust the process, and work even harder in the barn leading up to the American Royal.
Who was the first person you hugged or high-fived after your big win?
The first person I hugged was my dad because he helps me the most, and this accomplishment is something we’ve both dreamed about since we started showing together. I also loved getting to celebrate this accomplishment with my Nathan Club Lambs show team!
