We caught up with Mr. Hayes Henderson, exhibitor of the Reserve Champion Market Lamb at the 2025 American Royal. Learn a little more about Hayes below!
How did you get started in showing livestock?
My mom and dad both grew up showing livestock and wanted to raise me in the same environment.
What’s your favorite thing to do outside the show barn?
I’m a gun fanatic and really like to shoot things. In the spring and summer I also like to do a lot of fishing.
Favorite show to attend?
There’s just something about the green shavings in Louisville.
If you weren’t showing, what sport/hobby would you be doing?
I really don’t know, I can’t imagine not being in a show ring showing livestock.
Favorite show barn chore? Least favorite?
My favorite is definitely tracking but I hate blowing legs dry.
What’s one thing your parents/mentors always remind you of before you go in the ring?
Chad Walker always tells me “don’t screw up Karl” and my dad always gives me a big fist bump right before I walk in the ring.
What’s one thing you learned from your champion that will help you with future projects?
Being consistent day in and day out is key.
Who was the first person you hugged or high-fived after your big win?
My dad was the 1st one to meet me at the gate, he’s pretty hype and gave me a big high-five and a hug. My mom was right behind him crying and hugging all over me.
